Reasons why

1. The top and bottom lines on the building are not parallel because of the viewers point of view and perspective.
2. Although in reality the boat in the foreground would be much smaller than the sailing ship, it is painted larger to show distance.
3. I think the artist set a biblical story in a roman ruin with a contemporary harbor maybe to show time passing, a mixture of time periods to show how the world is ever changing.
